Pennypair Support

Pennypair is made by Ji'an Wangdong Technology Co., Ltd., China.

Questions, problems or ideas? Email us at support@pennypair.app.

The easiest way is Me › Contact us in the app: it opens an email with your Account ID already filled in, so we can find your account.

Sharing

How do I share a ledger?

On Home, tap New and pick Shared budget (for couples and families) or Split expenses (for trips, roommates and group dinners), then tap Create & invite. For a ledger you already have, open it and tap Members & settings (the people icon at the top right) › Invite people. Send the invite link or code in any messaging app. They see the ledger name and who invited them, and join once they accept.

How do I join with an invite?

Tap the invite link on your iPhone and it opens in Pennypair. New to Pennypair? On the welcome screen, tap I have an invite code, paste the link or code, then continue with Apple or Google.

Can I add someone who doesn't use Pennypair?

Yes, in a Split expenses ledger: Members & settings › Add someone without the app. Add them by name and include them in splits. If they join later with an invite, they can pick their name so past expenses count as theirs.

How does settling up work?

In a Split expenses ledger, Pennypair works out who should pay whom to even things out. Pay each other however you like, then tap Settle up › Mark as paid. Partial payments are fine. Pennypair never moves money.

What are savings jars?

A jar is a goal you save up for, alone or together: a trip, a couch, a wedding. In the Jars tab, create a jar with a goal amount. Turn on Set a target date and Pennypair shows how much to put aside each week. Invite others from the jar to save together and see who's chipped in.

How do I stop a view-only link?

In a ledger, open Members & settings › View-only link and tap Stop sharing. In a jar, tap the “A view-only link is on” notice below Add to jar, then Manage. The person who created the link and the ledger's or jar's owner can stop it. Links also stop working on their own after 7 days. While a link is on, everyone in the ledger or jar sees a notice, and the link never shows receipt photos.

Signing in

Should I continue with Apple or Google?

Either works. Just keep using the same one: continuing with Apple and continuing with Google create two separate Pennypair accounts, and they can't be merged.

I got a new iPhone. How do I get my ledgers back?

Sign in on the new iPhone the same way you did before. If you used Apple, continue with Apple using the same Apple Account. If you used Google, continue with Google using the same Google Account. If you sign in the other way, you'll get a new, empty account. Then open Me › Restore Purchases if you have Pro, and Me › Private ledgers to set up Face ID again.

Privacy lock

How do I hide a ledger with Face ID?

Go to Me › Private ledgers, or open a ledger and turn on Members & settings › Hide on this iPhone. Amounts show as •••• until you unlock with Face ID or Touch ID (if that doesn't work, you can use your iPhone passcode). Hiding only affects what you see; other members aren't told.

Does Pennypair see my face?

No. Face ID is handled by iOS, and your face data never leaves your iPhone. Pennypair only keeps a security key on your iPhone, and our server stores the matching public key. On a new iPhone, open Me › Private ledgers and follow the steps to set it up there.

In a ledger where anyone has Pro, everyone in it gets foreign currency, receipts, recurring bills, budgets and PDF reports.

Everyone gets, free: unlimited entries; joining shared ledgers and jars; splits, balances and settling up; who paid and who saved what; the calendar and charts; notifications and widgets; working offline; view-only links; Face ID privacy; CSV export; and any currency per ledger.

What happens when the 30 days end?

You go back to the free plan. Nothing is charged, and you keep everything you've recorded: ledgers and jars you made during the 30 days stay and keep working. You just can't create more than the free plan allows until you get Pro.

How much is Pro?

Pennypair Pro Yearly is $6.99 per year and renews automatically. Pennypair Pro Lifetime is $19.99, paid once. These are US prices; the App Store shows the price for your country or region. Apple handles payment, and we never see your card.

Can I share Pro?

In shared ledgers, yes. If anyone in a shared ledger has Pro (paid, or during their 30 days on us), everyone in that ledger can use its Pro tools, such as foreign currency, receipts, recurring bills, budgets and PDF reports. You'll see “Pro ledger” next to its name. Things that belong to you alone need your own Pro: unlimited ledgers and jars of your own, all themes and app icons, and seeing every search result across your ledgers (free shows the first 3).

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Choose Pennypair and cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. Deleting your Pennypair account doesn't cancel a subscription.

I bought Pro but don't have it

Go to the Me tab and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure your iPhone is signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought with. If Pro still doesn't show, write to us from Me › Contact us so your Account ID is included.

Notifications, widgets and offline

How do I turn notifications off?

Go to Me › Notifications and turn off the ones you don't want: New expenses, People joining, Settle-up reminders, Budget alerts, Recurring expenses and Free Pro ending. To turn them all off, open your iPhone's Settings › Notifications › Pennypair. Notifications never include amounts, and for ledgers you've hidden with Face ID they only say “New activity in Pennypair”.

How do I add a widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle, tap Edit, then Add Widget. Search for Pennypair and pick This Month, Balances or Quick Add. To choose which ledger This Month shows, touch and hold the widget and tap Edit Widget. Ledgers you've hidden with Face ID never appear on widgets.

What happens when I'm offline?

You can keep adding, editing and deleting expenses. They show Waiting to sync and sync on their own when you're back online, and totals update after syncing. Receipt photos upload once their expense has synced. Ledgers you've hidden with Face ID need a connection, because nothing from them is saved on your iPhone. If someone else changed or deleted the same expense in the meantime, Pennypair tells you what happened. If you sign out before your changes sync, Pennypair warns you first.

Your account and data

How do I export my data?

Open a ledger and tap Members & settings › Export as CSV.

How do I delete my account?

Go to the Me tab and tap Delete account. Your personal ledgers and jars are deleted right away. In shared ledgers, your past entries stay so others' balances don't change, shown as “Deleted user”, and receipt photos you added are deleted. This works the same whether you signed in with Apple or Google. If you have a subscription, cancel it separately (see above).

Where is my data stored?

See Where it's stored in our Privacy Policy, which also explains what we collect and who can see it.
