Pennypair Terms of Use
Effective October 2026 · Pennypair is made by Ji'an Wangdong Technology Co., Ltd., Ji'an, Jiangxi, China (“we”, “us”).
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms apply when you use the Pennypair app and the services behind it. By creating an account or using Pennypair, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you don't agree, please don't use Pennypair. You need to be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it, to use Pennypair.
2. The app and your account
- You sign in with Apple or Google. Each Apple Account or Google Account has its own Pennypair account. An account created with Apple and one created with Google are separate and can't be merged, so use the same way to sign in on every device. Google's own terms apply to your Google Account.
- You're responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your iPhone, Apple Account and Google Account secure. Tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
- You can stop using Pennypair at any time and delete your account in the app: Me › Delete account. What happens to your data when you do is described in our Privacy Policy.
3. The free plan and Pennypair Pro
Pennypair has a free plan with no time limit and a paid upgrade, Pennypair Pro. What each includes, and the price for your country or region, are shown in the app before you buy and on our Support page.
- 30 days on us. New accounts get Pro features free for 30 days. You don't enter payment details, and nothing is charged when the 30 days end: you simply go back to the free plan and keep everything you've recorded.
- Yearly. Pennypair Pro Yearly is an auto-renewing subscription sold by Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. It renews automatically for another year, and your Apple Account is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting your Pennypair account doesn't cancel it.
- Lifetime. Pennypair Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase that unlocks Pro for your account for as long as we offer Pennypair, with no renewals.
- Payments and refunds. Apple processes all payments, and refunds are handled by Apple under its policies (you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com). We never see your card details and can't issue refunds ourselves. To restore a purchase on a new iPhone, use Restore Purchases in the app.
- Pro in shared ledgers. When anyone in a shared ledger has Pro (paid, or during their 30 days on us), everyone in it can use that ledger's Pro features, such as foreign currency, receipt photos, recurring bills, budgets and PDF reports, for as long as that person stays in it. Pro features tied to your own account, such as creating unlimited ledgers and jars, seeing every search result, and all themes and app icons, need your own Pro. The app shows which features are which before you buy.
- Invite rewards. While we offer them, you get 10 extra days of free Pro for each new Pennypair user who joins one of your ledgers or jars with your invite, up to 9 times in any 365 days. Each new user counts once. Rewards only extend the free Pro on us: they have no cash value, can't be exchanged or transferred, and aren't given while you have Pro Yearly or Lifetime. We may change or end invite rewards at any time; days you've already received stay. We may remove rewards earned with fake or duplicate accounts.
4. Acceptable use
Please use Pennypair for what it's for: keeping track of money with people you know. Don't:
- use it for anything illegal, or to harass, threaten or deceive anyone, including through ledger names, notes or invites;
- send invites to people who don't want them, or use invites to spam;
- upload photos you don't have the right to share, or anything illegal, sexually explicit, violent or hateful;
- create fake or duplicate accounts, for example to collect invite rewards or free Pro again;
- try to get into accounts or data that aren't yours, or interfere with the service, for example by overloading it, probing it for weaknesses, or accessing it with automated tools;
- copy, modify or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it.
If an account seriously or repeatedly breaks these rules, we may limit or suspend it. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to explain or export your data.
5. Your content
What you enter into Pennypair, such as amounts, notes and names, belongs to you. You give us permission to store, copy and display it only as needed to run Pennypair for you and the people you share with. In a shared ledger or jar, every member can see its contents and your display name, and entries you made stay in the ledger if you leave or delete your account (shown as “Deleted user”), so others' balances don't change. Only share with people you trust, and only add what you're comfortable with them seeing.
Receipt photos work the same way: only add photos you have the right to share, and remember that everyone in the ledger can see them. Anyone in a ledger can report a photo with Report this photo, and we may remove content that breaks these terms.
If you create a view-only link, you decide who gets it and you're responsible for sharing it only with people who should see that ledger or jar. Anyone who has the link can see what it shows, as described in our Privacy Policy, until it expires after 7 days or someone stops it. Everyone in the ledger or jar is told while a link is on.
6. Not financial advice; no bank connections
Pennypair is a record-keeping tool. It doesn't connect to your bank, doesn't move money, and doesn't give financial, tax or legal advice. Balances, splits and “who owes whom” are calculated from what you and your ledger members enter, so check amounts before you pay anyone. How and whether you settle up is between you and them.
Exchange rates in Pennypair (daily reference rates from the European Central Bank, monthly rates from the European Commission, or a rate you enter) are for record-keeping only. They may differ from what your bank or card actually charged, and we don't guarantee that they're accurate or up to date. Amounts, dates and stores filled in from a receipt can be wrong, so check them before you save.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep Pennypair running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we may change, add or remove features over time. We won't take away Pro features you've paid for while your purchase is active without offering you a fair alternative. If we ever decide to shut Pennypair down, we'll try to tell you in the app well in advance and give you time to export your data.
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Pennypair after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can stop using Pennypair and delete your account.
8. Liability
We provide Pennypair with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits or lost opportunities), or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Pennypair in the 12 months before the claim and US$20.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
9. Apple
If you got Pennypair from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) also applies. In addition:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Pennypair and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Pennypair. Contact us instead.
- If Pennypair fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price you paid (if any); to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Pennypair.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims relating to Pennypair, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and claims that Pennypair infringes someone else's intellectual property.
- You confirm that you're not in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo or listed as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you're not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.
